Host farm AYA Host Farm Application
As the host farm we ask that you commit to a minimum of one year. Scholarship recipients will
have between 3-9 months to work through the AOBA 4H manual so that they may gain full control
of their donated alpacas. Donated alpacas will be transferred directly from donating farms to
your location, we request that the donated farm covers the transportation cost and we will try
to find alpacas close to your location. A CVI, negative BVDV, current fecal results and
gelding (if needed) will be required before the alpaca arrives on your property. Students
will receive official ownership upon transferring of the alpaca and will be financially
responsible from that point on. We ask that host farms donate agistment costs and normal
medical maintenance such as worming and vaccinations during the training period for each
student. In exchange youth program participants will be asked to not only work on their
required skills but also provide assistance with chores associated with alpaca farms. Once the
required skills have been completed and signed off the student can choose to either move their
suri alpaca to another location or start a regular agistment contract with you.
As the host farm you do not have to be a 4-H or FFA leader, but do need to use the AOBA 4H
manual as your guide to teach the student. If you are interested in becoming a 4-H leader
please contact your state 4H extension office for details.
Donating farm AYA Donation Application
Donated alpacas will need to be transferred directly from your farm to an accepted host farm
property (we request that you assist with the transportation cost if possible). A CVI, negative
BVDV, current fecal exam result and gelding (if age appropiate) will be required before the
alpaca leaves your property. The transfer of ownership cost will be the responsibility of
the donating alpaca owner. Once the transfer is complete the scholarship recipient will be
financially responsible for the donated alpaca. Donating farms are asked to use their own
farm?s sales contract for this transaction.
Scholarship recipient AYA Scholarship Application
As an alpaca scholarship winner you will have between 2-9 months to work through the AOBA 4H
manual before you can gain full control of your alpaca. Donated alpacas will be transferred
directly from the originating farms with the registration transferred into your name upon
departure. A CVI (certificate of veterinary inspection), negative BVDV, current fecal exam and
gelding (if needed) are required before the alpaca leaves it origin farm with costs covered as
part of the scholarship. Once the official alpaca registration has been transferred you will be
financially responsible from that point on. We ask that host farms donate agistment (boarding)
costs and normal medical maintenance such as worming and vaccinations during your training
period. In exchange youth program participants will be asked to not only work on their required
skills but also provide assistance with chores associated with alpaca farms to help defray costs
associated with your alpaca. You will be required to meet with your host farm a minimum of once
a month, however we recommend you work with your alpaca more often as suggested by the host farm. Once the required skills have been completed and signed off by the host farm you may choose to either move your alpaca to another location or start a regular agistment contract with the host farm.
As a scholarship recipient you may be asked to join 4-H or an FFA program depending on the
particular farm on which your alpaca is places. Either organization may have additional
requirements.
